St Xavier's College, Ranchi is an institute of Higher Learning of Ranchi Province. The Alumni Association of the College is an integral part of the Jesuit Education System whereby the outgoing students retain their bonding with the alma mater both to continue their learnings through varied experience of life for human development and nation building.
The Alumni Association of St Xavier’s College, Ranchi was started in 1994 under the name of Association of Ranchi Old Xaverians (AROX), when Fr. Gilbert D’ Souza, SJ was the Principal. He was also the first President of AROX along with two Vice-Presidents Mr. Prem Kumar Poddar and Mr. Kishore V. Patel, the General Secretary Mr. Arun JohnPrabla and three Joint Secretaries Mr. Gajanad Jhunjhunwala, Mrs. Nirmala Daisy Ekka and Mr. S. S. Akhtar including the Treasurer Mr. Rajesh Tekriwal with 15 members, AROX had various activities from time to time till 2022.
On February 10-11, 2023 there was the 10th National Congress of the Federation of Jesuit Alumni Association of India (JAAI) call JAAI Milan held at St. Xavier’s School, St. Michael’s School and St Xavier’s College of Education, Patna where four delegates of St. Xavier’s College, Ranchi represented AROX – (1) Dr. Fr. Alex Ekka, Rector, (2) Prof. Janet Ekka, (3) Dr Neel Kusum Kullu and (4) Prof. Jyoti Ignace Tete. There was around 250 Jesuit Alumni delegates and more than 50 Jesuit Priests from different parts of the country and abroad for the event. The theme of the Congress was “Shaping India’s Techade: Challenges and Opportunities”.
Motivated by the 10th JAAI Congress at Patna, the four delegates of AROX advised Dr. Fr. Nabor Lakra, SJ the Principal of the College to organize the Alumni Meet of the college. Consequently, it was held on 26th March 2023 with about 100 AROX members and other passed out students of the college including some of its veteran Professors. The dignitaries at the occasion were (1) Dr. Fr. Nabor Lakra, SJ, Principal of the College, (2) Dr. Fr. Alex Ekka, SJ, Rector of the College, (3) Mr. Arun John Prabal, Founder Secretary of AROX, (4) Dr, Devendra Singh, Council Member of World Union of Jesuit Alumni (WUJA), (5) Mr. Vishal Jain, the Senior Vice-President of JAAI Central Zone, (6) Dr. Nitesh Priya, President of Jesuit Alumni Association of Ranchi Province (JAARP) and (7) Fr. Ignatius Lakra, SJ, the Province Alumni Coordinator.
The sole purpose of Alumni Meet was to rejuvenate AROX after its illustrious beginning in the early 1990s. the programme of action chalked out in the Alumni Meet was to complete the long pending registration of AROX. Consequently, the Rector Fr. Alex Ekka, SJ drew up a concept note for the rejuvenation of AROX and with the approval of the Principal constituted its Interim Executive Council (IEC) of 30 members. The mail office bearer are (1) President – Dr. Fr. Nabor Lakra, SJ, (2) Vice-President – Prof. Manohal Lal, (3) General Secretary – Dr. Swarat Chaudhuri, (4) Joint Secretary – Prof. Janet Ekka, (5) Assistant Secretary – Dr. Sachin Mishra, (6) Treasurer – Dr. Abhijit Dey, and (7) Assistant Treasurer – Prof. Jyoti Ignace Tete. The advisors to the IEC are Dr. Fr. Alex Ekka, SJ – Rector of the College and Dr. Devendra Singh – WUJA Council Members and alumnus of the College. Similarly, the Bursar of the College is the Financial Advisor of AROX.
On 8th October 2023 De Nobili School, Digwadih at Dhanbad organized the Central Zone JAAI Meet. There were about 50 alumni delegates from the central zone and five from AROX. They were Fr. Nabor Lakra, SJ – the Principal, Fr Alex Ekka, SJ – Rector, Prof. Janet Ekks, Mrs. Gunjan Kindo and Mrs. Davindra Kaur. Prof. Janet Ekka make a good presentation regarding the rejuvenation of AROX.
