Boy's Hostel

St. Xavier’s College, Ranchi provides hostel facility only for boys students in the college campus. The main objective of the hostel is to cater needy and hard working students. Hostel has 3 blocks A, B and C. Block A and B have 4 bedded rooms whereas block C has double and single bedded rooms.

Admission in the college doesnot guarantee admission in the hostel. Admission in the hostel is given by inviting application in a prescribed format from the aspiring students of the first semester after their admission in the college. Beds are allotted on the priority basis for the students belonging to the marginal sections (ST/SC/OBC) and also to those students coming from the remote and far-flung areas. Remaining seats, if available, are usually allotted to students of other categories.

The hostels are well furnished and operate under the supervision of Hostel Superintendent with his Assistants (Hostel Wardens). The students are expected to contribute towards the cleanliness of their rooms and blocks. However, there are designated cleaning staffs for maintaining hygiene. The hostel does not provide self-cooking facility; their meals are prepared by cooks following a particular time table.


Hostel Admission Process:

  1. Admission in the College.
  2. Hostel Admission Form can be collected from the Hostel office by paying Form Fee.
  3. Duly filled form should be submitted in the office with required documents (Admission Proof, Photo copy of Marksheet 12th.)
  4. Parent/Local Guardian should be present during admission in the hostel.

Hostel Rules and Regulations:

Expected Conduct

  1. Every hosteller is expected to behave in a civil manner.
  2. Students should stay away from all those activities which interfere with their studies, disrupt the functioning of the hostel and college and create disharmony among people of different communities.
  3. It is everyone's duty to maintain a cordial atmosphere among people of all classes and communities in the college and hostel.
  4. Every hosteller should behave politely with the teachers and others in the college and hostel premises.
  5. Whistling at a girl or making any kind of lewd comment is a sign of uncivilized behavior.
  6. Drinking alcohol and ragging new students is strictly prohibited in the hostel. There is a provision for strict action against those who violate this rule.
  7. Smoking cigarettes and eating gutka & paan is strictly prohibited in the hostel and college premises.
  8. Every hosteller must enter the college gate before 8:00 PM.

Presence

  1. The hostel remains closed during Holi, Summer Vacation, Puja and Christmas holidays. Ensure marking your attendance through your class representative after returning from vacation.
  2. Permission of the superintendent is compulsory for remaining absent from the hostel in all circumstances.
  3. Hostel membership is automatically terminated, if the student remains absent for two months without the permission of the superintendent.

Responsibility of Hostel Goods

  1. Hostellers are responsible for everything in their rooms and hostel.
  2. Superintendent is to be informed immediately, if chairs-tables, doors-windows etc. are damaged.
  3. Marking any kind of mark on walls, doors, windows, tables & chairs and pasting posters-pictures etc. are strictly prohibited.
  4. Ensure switching off the lights and closing the windows before going to home on holidays.
  5. While vacating the room, inform the superintendent or the person designated by him so that the room can be locked on time. If the doors, windows, furniture, electricity fitting etc. of the room are found damaged, action will be taken against the occupants of that room. Those, who do not follow this rule, will be considered irresponsible and will not be given admission again.

Cleanliness

  1. Keep the hostel premises clean at all costs. Cleaning of the premises is the responsibility of every Hosteller.
  2. Spitting on the Walls, Corridor or Floor of the hostel building after eating paan, gutka, tobacco etc. is strictly prohibited.
  3. Remove waste paper and garbage from your room to the corridor before 8:30AM in the morning.
  4. Keep the toilet and bathing area clean. Do not urinate anywhere except the designated places.

Study

  1. All hostellers have to study in their respective rooms during compulsory study time.
  2. Walking in the corridor, going from one room to another, playing radio, going to the canteen, taking bath, washing clothes, playing cards or chess etc. are strictly prohibited during study time.
  3. You must go to your room for study as soon as the bell rings.
  4. No outsider is allowed in the room during study time.

Re-Admission

  1. It is compulsory for every student to get re-admitted every year in June-July after summer vacation.
  2. Students, who are already staying in the hostel, are also not automatically re-admitted.
  3. If the student does not take re-admission within 15 days of the opening of the hostel, a late fine of Rs. 5/- per day will be charged.
  4. Those students will not be re-admitted:
    1. Who fail in the college or university examination.
    2. Who indulge in intoxication in the hostel.
    3. Who do not pay the fees of the current year.
    4. Whose conduct is not satisfactory or who repeatedly violate the hostel rules.

Visitors Timing

  1. Visitor can not meet the hosteller between 6:00 PM and 8:15 AM.
  2. No guest can stay in the hostel at night without the permission of the Superintendent.
  3. It is prohibited to entertain non-hosteller in hostel rooms at any time.
  4. It is strictly prohibited to keep an outsider in the hostel. Any hosteller doing so will be expelled from the hostel.

Hostel Fee

  1. Hostel fee is charged on a 12 month basis.
  2. If a student leaves the hostel for any reason, he will have to pay the fee for the next month from the month in which he is leaving the hostel.
  3. Pay the hostel fee on time, otherwise fine will be charged.
  4. Pay the hostel fee in full by January, otherwise you will have to pay a fine.
  5. If you leave the hostel after 1 month from the date of admission, the fee will not be refunded.

Allotment of Rooms

  1. The allotment of rooms will be done by the Superintendent only after re-admission in the beginning of the session in June-July.
  2. Single bedded hostel room will be given to those boarding students whose conduct is found satisfactory.
  3. Only those students, who are given rooms, are entitled to stay in them.
  4. The hosteller using the room is responsible for every thing available in the room.

Arrangement of Mess

  1. All the hostellers are required to join the mess compulsorily
  2. Cooking in the room is strictly prohibited under any circumstances.
  3. Eating outside is against the mess rules when the mess is opened.
  4. It is mandatory to follow the prescribed time for meals.

Cycle

  1. Bicycles can be kept only after obtaining permission from the Superintendent and after paying the prescribed fee.
  2. Always keep the bicycle at the designated place. The cyclist is solely responsible for the safety of the bicycle.
  3. Keeping a bike, scooty or scooter is strictly prohibited.
  4. Students are instructed to ask visitors, who come to meet them, to keep their bicycles or motorcycles at designated places only.

Use of Electricity

  1. Each room in the hostel has been allotted a fixed wattage (one tube light or bulb of 40 watts). So using extra Bulbs, high wattage Bulbs, Iron, Fan, Printer etc. is strictly prohibited because doing so affects the electricity system of the entire hostel. Strict action will be taken against those who violate this rule.
  2. Do not allow unnecessary lights to be on in your room.
  3. Theft of electricity in any manner is a serious offence.

Use of Musical Instruments, Mobile Phone, Laptop, Home Theatre, Radio

  1. Use of musical instruments and radio is allowed between 4:00 PM and 6:00 PM.
  2. Their use is strictly prohibited during study hours and sleeping time.

Spiritual Growth

  1. It is compulsory for all Catholic Students to attend Holy Mass every Sunday morning in the college church.
  2. It is the sacred duty of all hostellers to attend all Catholic religious rites such as Benediction Mass and other ceremonies organised by the hostel or college.

Associations and Organisations

  1. All Catholic students are required to take active part in the programmes of CLC (Christian Living Community).
  2. Interested students can pursue personal growth by participating in the AICUF (All India Catholic University Federation) movement.
  3. No meeting can be held inside the hostel and college premises without the permission of the Superintendent or the Principal.
  4. All students should actively participate in the programs of caste and regional associations.

Manual Work

  1. All hostellers have to contribute towards the management of the hostel by doing physical/manual work for at least 3 hours in a year.
  2. Every hosteller of Intermediate and First Year of Degree course is required to participate in manual work for 5 hours in a year.
  3. On the occasions like Loyola Day, Karam, Christ the King, Xavier's Day, College Day, Christmas Celebrations, Annual Sports and Sarhul, manual work is expected from all hostellers.

Expulsion from Hostel

  1. Consuming intoxicants.
  2. Quarreling or beating anyone.
  3. Indulging in bad habits like gambling, drugs etc.
  4. Cooking food in one's room.
  5. Keeping an outsider in the room without permission.
  6. Making noise during study time.
  7. Disturbing others' studies
  8. Leaving one's room without the permission of the Superintendent and occupying another room.
