Department of Chemistry



The Department of Chemistry is a multi-dimensional centre for study and understand in Chemistry. The department offers three years B.Sc.degree in Chemistry Honours.Provides a substantial Chemistry background to supplement other disciplines.Gives exposure to state-of-the-art instrumental techniques. The Department of Chemistry of St Xavier's College offers a dynamic and cutting-edge educational experience in the chemical sciences.

The Department believes in Holistic development of learner through academic excellence, employability, acquisition of analytical skills and higher research. The Department has highly qualified, young and dynamic faculty in various fields of Sciences. The thrust area in Chemistry include Green Chemistry, Polymer Chemistry, Advanced controlled drug delivery systems, Nanocomposites, Physiochemical studies of biomolecules etc.

Programmes:

  • The Department offers full time B.Sc. in Chemistry and M.Sc. in Chemistry programmes.
  • The four-year undergraduate programme in Chemistry is divided into eight semesters. It provides a wide range of ideas and concepts about fundamental studies of chemistry's structures, properties, and reactions. Through this programme student can gain these skills while covering Physical, Inorganic and Organic Chemistry. This course examines multiple Substances, Particles, Fragments, Molecules, Crystals and other aggregates of matter, whether in isolation or alliance and which includes the concepts of energy and entropy about the spontaneity of chemical processes.
  • The M.Sc. Chemistry course is for two years and divided into four semesters. It consists of exploring the specialized knowledge of Organic Chemistry, Physical Chemistry, Analytical Chemistry, Inorganic Chemistry, Bio-organic Chemistry, Biophysical Chemistry, Atmospheric Chemistry, Bio-inorganic Chemistry and Applications of Spectroscopy.
