The Department of Education, St. Xavier's College, Ranchi was established in the year 2005. This is a premier institution in the state of Jharkhand imparting quality education through well planned academic programmes. It is a unit of St. Xavier's College which is registered by the Ranchi Province under the local title "Xavier's Ranchi" under the Society's Registration Act XXI of 1860 located at Dr Camil Bulcke Path, Ranchi, Jharkhand through its authorized signatory of the other part. At present Department of Education is offering two years Bachelor of Education programme which is recognised by NCTE and affiliated to Ranchi University, Ranchi.
The Department of Education aims at shaping the mind of young students to pursue B. Ed. Course to enable them to make their career in teaching. The B.Ed. degree is mandatory for teaching in higher primary schools and high schools. The minimum qualification required for admission into B.Ed. course is Bachelor degree.
The college aims at an integral and personalized training of young men and women through Integral Pedagogy – Context, Experience, Reflection, Action and Evaluation –to be well motivated teachers who will be intellectually competent, morally upright, socially committed and spiritually inspired. It is the aim of St. Xavier’s College that the students who take their training here become well formed guides who will accompany the young learner on his or her journey of becoming a fully human person. The college, therefore, offers an all-round training, one that is at once intellectual, cultural, social, emotional, physical, aesthetic, moral and spiritual.
The college further aims at promoting values such as respect for Indian common cultural heritage, egalitarianism, democracy, secularism, equality of sexes, protection of environment, removal of social barriers, responsible use of cybernetics and mass media, transparency and probity in private and public life, observance of small family norms, national unity, and respect for religious and moral values.
The objectives of the course is: to develop Chotanagpur region educationaaly, to empower students with padagogical skill and competencies, to understand the importance of education for national change and social change, to make students aware of contemporary issues of religion, national and international concerns, to inculcate social, moral and cultural values in the students, to promote feeling of nationalism and universal brotherhood, to spread awareness regarding environmental issues, and to develop problem solving ability in the students.
